The Black Cat and other strange stories

Translation:+

The Black Cat
 Poe Edgar Allan

I neither expect nor ask you to believe the so horrible and yet so hoofed story that I am about to write. I should indeed be mad if I expected such a case, where my very senses deny their testimony. And yet I’m not crazy – and I’m certainly not dreaming. But tomorrow I am going to die and I would like to calm my soul down. My purpose is to expose to the world, redundantly and without any comment, a series of common facts connected with my home. These events, in their consequences, terrorized me, tortured me, destroyed me. However, I will not attempt to give them an explanation. To me, they represented something Horrible – to many they will seem more uncanny than terrible. Perhaps some mind will be found, That will turn its fancies into platitudes—some calmer, more reasonable mind.
