“Timaeus” is the only “natural” Platonic work and the oldest source for the myth of “lost Atlantis”. Its subject matter is more reminiscent of an Aristotelian book and is clearly related to the research object of the pre-Socratic natural philosophers. The dialogic form of the work, immediately after the extensive narrative about the land of the Atlanteans and their war against the Athenians, gives way to an extended monologue, in which the astronomer Timaeus – from the city of Locron – teaches the creation of the world and the birth of man.
