This characteristic anthology contains some of his most notable Portuguese poems, dubbed into Greek, both current and original. If dear readers already know how hard work it is to translate a simple, everyday text well, then they will easily understand how laborious it can be to translate a poetic work. Avoiding an extensive citation of well-known and rather trivial theories about “faithful or unfaithful” and “good or bad” translation, I will limit myself to the following: with particular devotion I took care to keep the meaning of the poet’s verses unadulterated, while at the same time I tried to render, where this was possible, that element of rhythm and melodiousness that is sometimes judged as a necessary complement to poetic expression.
